Thinking about using the Bow Tie mounts instead of king cage Titanium Many Things. The reason for this is because it looks like the Bow tie would get my water a centimeter closer to the attachment points. It doesn’t have a bottom like the king cage. I’m really not sure how it would do over rocky terrain but I suspect with three Voile straps it would be perfectly fine to carry up to two liters of water this way.
The feeling of water sloshing around is bad enough. I’d hope it would be a bit better if closer to the mounting points but tbh idk if it would help substantially. It’s also cheaper to use bow ties!
Has anyone tried something similar or have any input on which would work likely work better?

Recently purchased some of those bow ties. Haven’t used them yet. Curious about feedback.
I think for something heavy like water, a bottom ledge is not a bad idea.
As for the distance from the fork, I think you’re over thinking things…
The bow tie anchors work great– they held my 1.5L Nalgenes on all kinds of gnarly terrain just fine for over 1k miles over a few trips.
However, you have to cinch the ever-loving-shit out of them.
My new bike has a carbon fork, so I’m on the Widefoot cargo mounts. Life with them is much easier…
I only used the bow ties for a short time, but they kept coming loose. I think this might be less of a problem if you use two and strap a bottle to them, so they can’t turn.
I would go with the King. Tried, true, and tested
