Geplant, gebaut, gebraucht und wieder abgerissen, so ergeht es vielen Gebäuden. In »Neustadt« von Julius von Bismarck und Marta Dyachenko sind Architekturen versammelt, die seit der Jahrtausendwende im Ruhrgebiet dem Rückbau – so heißt es im Amtsdeutsch – anheimfielen. Im Maßstab 1:25 bilden die 23 Skulpturen eine fiktive Stadt auf einer Grünfläche zwischen der Alten Emscher, dem Fahrradweg »Grüner Pfad« und der A 42 im Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.
Wie steht es mit dem Verhältnis von Erhalt und Abriss? Was macht eine Stadt aus? Und kenne ich nicht diese Kirche, dieses Schwimmbad?
»Neustadt« weckt zahlreiche Assoziationen und Erinnerungen und lädt dazu ein, umherzuwandern, Platz zu nehmen (zum Beispiel auf der Volkshochschule Essen) und zu beobachten, wie die Natur das Werk verändert.

Planned, built, used and torn down again – that’s what happens to many buildings. In »Neustadt« by Julius von Bismarck and Marta Dyachenko, architectures are gathered that since the turn of the millennium in the Ruhr region have fallen victim to deconstruction – as it is called in official German. On a scale of 1:25, the 23 sculptures form a fictitious city on a green space between the Alte Emscher, the »Grüner Pfad« cycle path and the A 42 motorway in the Duisburg-Nord landscape park.
What about the relationship between preservation and demolition? What makes a city? And don’t I know this church, this swimming pool?
»Neustadt« awakens numerous associations and memories and invites you to wander around, take a seat (for example, on the Volkshochschule Essen) and observe how nature changes the work.
