I am planning a trip beginning in 2025. Basically starting the C&O and GAP riding west o the northern end of the Pacific coast route then south. Spend winter in south west before attempting to hike the PCT. After hiking go back to where the bikes are stored and ride the southern tier to the east coast Greenway back to Pa. We have Kona sutra bikes with USB charger, panniers and a coho set up with a custom top for a dog carrier. I have a small federal service dog for a heart condition. I hiked the Appalachian trail with my wife and dog last year and am kinda a gear nerd. Looking at about 15 lbs of gear including a camera, fishing rod and my pups flying disk. I have a lot of extra room in my panniers. Everything fits in the rear with room to spare. We don’t plan on doing a credit card trip wanting to go slow and enjoy the country camping as much as possible. Doing short trips now to get our packing and weight distribution figured out better as well as keeping us in shape. Having thru hiked I am expecting a lot of similar type of troubles with riding. Physical and mental limits, rain, can’t find a suitable camping place, heavy load, nutrition and hydration. However 100 miles on bike between resupply is a lot better than 100 on foot. So I also see some things that will be a lot easier. Anyone with experience with both that could point out anything I would be missing for such an adventure.
