I’ve changed out the BB on a 2004 specialized hotrock 24, but could not get the chain guide back on. There was an alignment issue, and I could not seem to get the guide on without risk of cross-threading the BB/shell.
Can I go without it, or do I need it?
If I go without it, are there any changes I need to consider to reduce the chance of chain drop? First photo is what it looks like stock. Looks like the last owner was running without it in place (second photo, you can barely see it’s been moved so the chain does not route over the lower pulley). Alternatively I can pull everything back off and try to fix the alignment issue.
