Der Schrevenpark gehört zu den beliebtesten und bekanntesten Grünanlagen Kiels und bildet das grüne Herz der Stadtteile Schreventeich und Ravensberg. Die etwa neun Hektar große Parkanlage entstand Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts auf Flächen, die der Kieler Kaufmann Julius Schreven der Stadt vermacht hatte. Ursprünglich als Volkspark konzipiert, entwickelte sich der Schrevenpark schnell zu einem wichtigen Erholungsraum für die wachsende Großstadt. Bis heute ist sein charakteristisches Zentrum der langgestreckte Schreventeich, ein künstlich angelegtes Gewässer, das von Spazierwegen, Wiesen und alten Baumgruppen umgeben ist. Der Park verbindet auf besondere Weise historische Parkgestaltung mit modernen Freizeitnutzungen. Während an sonnigen Tagen Studierende, Familien und Anwohner auf den großen Rasenflächen entspannen, werden die Wege von Joggern, Radfahrern und Spaziergängern genutzt. Besonders prägend sind die zahlreichen alten Bäume, darunter mächtige Buchen, Linden und Kastanien, die dem Park auch im Sommer ein angenehmes Klima verleihen. Mehrere Brücken, kleine Uferbereiche und Sichtachsen über das Wasser sorgen für abwechslungsreiche Perspektiven. Der Schrevenpark liegt zudem in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Christian-Albrechts-Universität und wird daher stark von Studierenden genutzt. Im Laufe seiner Geschichte überstand die Anlage sowohl die rasante Stadterweiterung Kiels als auch die Zerstörungen des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Heute dient der Park nicht nur als Naherholungsgebiet, sondern auch als wichtiger ökologischer Freiraum innerhalb der dicht bebauten Innenstadt.
Schrevenpark is one of Kiel’s most popular and well-known green spaces, forming the green heart of the districts of Schreventeich and Ravensberg. Covering around nine hectares, the park was created in the late nineteenth century on land donated to the city by the merchant Julius Schreven. Originally designed as a public park for the rapidly growing city, it soon became one of Kiel’s most important recreational areas. At its center lies the elongated Schreventeich, an artificial pond surrounded by walking paths, open lawns, and mature trees. The park successfully combines elements of historic landscape design with modern recreational uses. On sunny days, students, families, and local residents gather on the large grassy areas, while joggers, cyclists, and walkers make use of the extensive network of paths. One of the park’s defining features is its impressive collection of mature trees, including beeches, lindens, and chestnuts, which provide shade and create a pleasant atmosphere throughout the warmer months. Several bridges, waterside viewpoints, and open vistas across the pond add variety to the landscape. Due to its proximity to Kiel University, the park is particularly popular with students. Throughout its history, Schrevenpark has witnessed Kiel’s rapid urban expansion and survived the challenges of the Second World War. Today, it serves not only as a recreational destination but also as an important ecological green space within the densely built city.
