For 31 kilometres, Slovakia’s Viktória Chladoňová and Canada’s Isabella Holmgren rode alone at the front of the UCI Road World Championships in Kigali. Holmgren attacked on every climb, but the Slovakian refused to let go. With one kilometre left, the Canadian forced her to lead and then launched first — and with just 125 metres to go, Chladoňová powered past her to win Slovakia’s first ever world title in the discipline, after silver in both the road race and the time trial the year before.
