This chapter of my World Bicycle Tour took an unexpected turn.
My time in Serbia didn’t go the way I hoped. While traveling with the Ukrainian flag on my bicycle, I had several uncomfortable encounters with locals and, at times, genuinely felt that I wasn’t welcome. After a few incidents, I decided there was no reason to force myself to stay somewhere I didn’t feel comfortable.
Kosovo was only a few hours away, so I changed the plan.
I put my bicycle on a bus, spent about five hours on the road, and crossed into Kosovo 🇽🇰 — and it turned out to be absolutely the right decision.
The difference in my experience was incredible. From the moment I arrived, the people of Kosovo were among the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve met on this journey. People stopped to help me, conversations were easy because English was widely spoken, the food was fantastic, and I felt genuinely welcomed.
Kosovo surprised me in the best possible way. It’s a place I would absolutely recommend visiting.
After exploring Kosovo, it was time to get back on the bicycle. I rode approximately 90 km toward Skopje, North Macedonia, continuing another chapter of my journey around the world.
But, as I’ve learned many times on this trip, plans can change very quickly — and once again, things didn’t go exactly as planned.
