We are in the Camargue nature reserve in France, on the beautiful sand spit of 12 km that connects Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône to Saint-Marie-de-la-Mer. Our cycle ride begins at the Phare de la Gachole and we will travel the entire length of the sandy strip, first crossing the Étang des Batayolles and then continuing towards the village of Saint-Marie-de-la-Mer, famous for its Gypsy Festival in May, when gypsies from all over Europe gather to celebrate Saint Sara the Black, patron saint of the gypsies, in a spectacle of celebration, music and colour.
