Wickham is one of Berkshire’s most unusual villages — its flint church tower
(St Swithun’s) It is one of the most distinctive in the county, built from local
stone with a character you won’t find in the Cotswolds. Welford sits in the
folds of the Lambourn Valley, a quiet stretch of West Berkshire that the main
roads completely bypass — thatched roofs, a village pub, and the kind of English
countryside that looks like a painting. Boxford is smaller still, settled around
a crossing on the River Lambourn, a handful of old houses and almost no traffic.
