Epic Road Rides’ expert tips for your Pyrenees cycling tour

Why should cyclists ride the trans Pyrenees route?
The Pyrenees are one of the most scenic mountain ranges you can pedal through in Europe, if not the world. Even the towns and villages are beautiful, with lots of traditional architecture to admire.

Fun fact
The Trans Pyrenees route in France runs 766 kilometres from St Jean de Luz, a fishing port on the Basque coast, to Port-Vendres on the Mediterranean, with 16,720 metres of elevation gain.

When to cycle
Saddle Skedaddle’s Pyrenees trips depart in July, making the most of the best weather conditions.

Any tips?
Although this isn’t a signposted route, when you’re on the climbs, there are kilometre markers so you can monitor your progress and pace. The roads are also well maintained and in generally great condition.
