Synopsis:
Set in the midst of World War II during the bleak autumn of 1943, a harrowing human and political drama unfolds in a northern Italian town. The story follows Anna, a beautiful young woman trapped in a joyless marriage with an older, wheelchair-bound man. Seeking solace, she begins a dangerous and passionate affair with a young deserter from the Italian army. However, their personal tragedy soon intertwines with the dark, violent course of history. A fanatic local fascist leader seizes power and orchestrates a brutal nighttime massacre of the peaceful political opposition. Among the innocent victims of this cruel raid is the father of Anna’s young lover. An oppressive, impenetrable fog covers the city, masking the horrors of a long night that will forever change their lives and the history of the town.
