The UK heatwave was in full force for this ride, with temperatures hitting 35°C as we tackled the stunning Pitstone Hill and Dunstable Downs loop through the Chilterns.

Starting from Whipsnade, this 23.6-mile route served up rolling chalk hills, fast countryside trails, huge views across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, and plenty of climbing in some seriously tough conditions. What normally feels like a flowing summer ride quickly turned into a battle against the heat.
