'm considering buying a 2012 Trek Madone 7S Project One, size 50, with a mechanical Shimano Dura-Ace groupset(not Di2) and Zipp 303 clincher wheels.
The seller is asking $1,950.
According to the seller:
- Third owner
- Estimates they've only ridden it about 600 miles
- Never ridden on a trainer
- Used in one Ironman 70.3 before buying a dedicated tri bike
- Has mostly been stored for years
- Recently serviced with:
- New Shimano bottom bracket bearings
- New Shimano brake pads
- New bar tape
- Has the service receipt
I'm an experienced cyclist riding 4,000–5,000 miles per year and I'm looking for a lightweight carbon road bike that I'll actually ride regularly—not a collector's bike.
A few questions for those who have owned or worked on these bikes:
- Is $1,950 a fair asking price in today's market?
- What would you realistically try to buy it for?
- Are there any common issues with the 2012 Madone 7S that I should inspect before purchasing (BB90 bearings, seat mast, frame cracks, integrated brakes, etc.)? Some owners have mentioned checking the BB90 system, integrated brake setup, and verifying any applicable brake recall work was completed.
- Would you rather own this bike or spend similar money on a newer aero rim-brake bike?
- Is the mechanical Dura-Ace 9000 group still considered a great option in 2026?
I'd appreciate any advice from current or former Madone owners, especially if you've owned this generation. Thanks!
