I just came back from an awesome short bikepacking trip in the Italian Alps, around the Stelvio. I based myself on the “The Livigno Loop” route from bikepacking.com and adjusted it to have a bit more paved roads and less hike-a-bikes. I am not fit so I did around 40-50km a day with 1500 meters of ascent on average. The region is truly stunning, with lovely Italian mountain villages in between the towering peaks.

I managed to travel light since I was sleeping inside and I had friends joining on the trip doing day hikes so I could leave a lot of my stuff in the car.

The roads and villages were still reasonably calm being the beginning of July. Weather was fantastic, only one afternoon with thunderstorms and rain.
