Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice or to see if anyone else has run into this issue.
I bought a brand new Rocky Mountain Altitude (the current edition with the LC2R linkage) back in November. I’m the first owner, absolutely love the bike, and treat it with a ton of care.
However, I just took my rear wheel off and noticed something concerning. Where the rear brake hose exits the front triangle and enters the rear stay, the cable has been rubbing against the frame. It has slowly worn completely through the paint, and a small amount of carbon is visible.
The chainstay side has a little bit of friction too, but it’s much lighter and nowhere near the carbon. Since it just broke through the paint, I’m hoping I caught it early enough, but I'm worried about potential structural issues if it keeps wearing down.
Because that area is so tight and hard to reach, it’s really tough to see unless the wheel is out. I've attached some pictures, but please note that the ones showing the exposed carbon are a bit blurry, it was super sketchy trying to push the tight cable out of the way and snap a clear photo at the same time.
My questions for the community:
Is this a known issue? The clearance for the cables seems incredibly tight there.
Can I leave it like this or what should I do? I added some soft velcro over it to see if it is going to resolve the issue.
Is this something I should contact Rocky Mountain about for a warranty claim?
Appreciate any insights or advice you guys have!
