A spokesperson for Chelmsford City Council told CRHnews:
“The road will have a width restriction and a 20mph speed limit with traffic calming in place to ensure it is only used for access into the site, not as a through route.
There will also be traffic calming measures in place on nearby Wharf Road.
You also asked about what will happen to the Bailey Bridge. It will be removed and stored safely until a new location is found for it. A bit of history that might be useful: the bridge was designed in 1940 and most likely used during the war effort. Following the conclusion of the war, the bridge was purchased by the council in September 1946 at a cost of £250 from the UK Government.
It was then installed for the purpose of being a walkway for people to cross the River Can, providing a crossing from Baddow Road to Kings Head Meadow Car Park, which people used to visit the then town centre or cinema.
The bridge was relocated to its current location in 1992.”
CRHnews asked how much the dismantling and replacement of a new bridge would cost, but they were unable at present to come up with a figure.
