My first build. I have been commuting for over 2 years on my 00s aluminum mountain bike and have been wanting to build up a more purpose built, steel frame bike. I picked up this 1981 Schwinn Le Tour off marketplace, tore it down to the frame, disassembled everything, cleaned, polished, and lubed/repacked all the moving parts. I slapped on some handlebars and brake levers from a donor Schwinn Collegiate, new cables and housing, a new chain, and a saddle I had laying around.
Im not done accessorizing yet. I still need fenders, a rear rack, a nicer saddle, and maybe a stem with a little less reach to complete the build, but I’m pretty stoked to have a functional bike after so much cleaning and tinkering.
