My British Racing Green Brompton could use a splash of red, so I decided to adorn it with a pair of plumbing valve style knobs. I really considered the mighty velo ones, but Red was sold out, and their style is perhaps just a tad bit TOO literal. So I took matters into my own hands. And I think it turned out well! 🙂
Much to my surprise, its finish turned out as I wanted – it kind of gives off an industrial steel vibe but really it's just a coated and painted PLA 3d print. It took a few prototypes to get the dimensions of the hexagonal hole to fit snuggly over the stock bolt head. Also, the 3d print needed to be sturdy enough to withstand pressure from the screw – so I printed it 'solid' instead of letting Cura generate its own infill.
Figured I would share some pics of it with you all before its trial by fire on my commute home today 😉
