overlooked spots, where narrowboats drift past old lock-keeper cottages just minutes
from the city centre.

moored in the shade, through Osney Lock with its working lock gates and colourful
houseboats, and along the quiet waterway corridors that most Oxford visitors never find.

Osney Lock sits on the River Thames (known locally as the Isis) just west of Oxford city
centre — it’s one of the oldest and most characterful locks in the Thames system. The
The Oxford Canal itself runs 77 miles north to Coventry and was one of England’s most
important commercial waterways before the railways arrived. Today, the towpath is a
peaceful cycling corridor through the heart of the city that almost no tourists ever find.
