DAY 7:
The last day of this journey was the shortest, but in many ways the hardest to finish. A heatwave had settled in by this point, and the sun was relentless. Hot tarmac, exposed cycleways, and a dry wind that offered no relief. The legs were holding up. But that sun was punishing.
The route crossed three countries in a single day (Liechtenstein, Austria, and Switzerland) following the Rhine Valley and the Rhine Delta, to the shores of the Bodensee (Lake Constance).
It was a Whit weekend, and every cycleway was packed: lots of cyclists, but also skaters, families, dogs. After those days of quiet and cold mountain roads and empty lakeside paths, this was a different kind of riding.
Slower, more careful, and somehow more human.
This episode also includes a short recap of the full journey: seven days, twelve lakes, from Lac Léman to the Bodensee.
The highlights, the challenges, the bike, the gear, and what it actually feels like to cross an entire country alone, on your own terms, at your own pace.
Arriving at Rorschach and seeing the Bodensee for the first time, that moment is hard to describe. Relief, yes. Pride, maybe.
But mostly just gratitude. For the route, for the bike, for those memories.
And the feeling, already, that the next one can’t come soon enough.

About the Route
The route crosses Switzerland from Geneva to Rorschach, linking the country’s most iconic lakes. It’s one of the most scenic cycling routes in Europe, a mix of lakeside paths, quiet roads, and stunning landscapes that changes every few kilometres.
