EuroVelo 6 Detours is a curated selection of destinations and attractions developed within the Active2Public Transport project, supported by the Interreg Danube Region Programme co-funded by the European Union.
The selection highlights attractions located in the wider vicinity of the EuroVelo 6 cycling route, which can be reached by combining cycling with public transport options such as trains, buses, or other local connections.
All featured locations are generally accessible within approximately one to two hours from the main EuroVelo 6 corridor, offering easy and sustainable opportunities for short detours beyond the cycling route.
The aim of this selection is to promote integrated and sustainable mobility by connecting cycling infrastructure with public transport networks, making a wider range of cultural, natural, and historical attractions more accessible to cyclists and visitors.
Reachable by a direct train from Ulm in under an hour on the EuroVelo 6, Esslingen am Neckar is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in southern Germany, with Gothic churches, a hillside vineyard castle, ancient gate towers, canals nicknamed Little Venice, and the country’s oldest row of half-timbered houses.
