In this new feature film I take you on a fantastic cycling tour in Gällivare, a beautiful town in Norrbotten in Northern Sweden. The weather is absolutely beautiful today – blue sky, sun and perfect temperature for a quiet and comfortable cycling tour 🚴♂️☀️
We start from the campsite where we have brought in the trailer. Already at the start I catch up with two other cyclists, and it is easy to feel how quiet and beautiful this area is. There are great walking and cycling paths here, safe and well-prepared for anyone who likes to explore nature on two wheels 🌿💚
🏞️ About Gällivare – some history and facts
Gällivare is located in Lapland, and has around 8,500 inhabitants.
The municipality is known for its mining industry, especially iron ore from LKAB – one of the world’s largest producers of iron ore.
The area is surrounded by mountains, forests and lakes, and is located near the Dundret mountain range, a popular ski and outdoor recreation area.
Gällivare is also part of the UNESCO Laponia area, known for its Sami culture and unique nature.
Famous people from the area include cross-country skier Gunde Svan, who has lived and trained a lot in the region.
The nearest airport is Gällivare Lapland Airport, just a few kilometers from the city center ✈️
🚴♂️ My ride through Gällivare
I eventually cycle onto a nice gravel road along a river – incredibly idyllic. But suddenly a construction site appears that is actually closed. The work seems to have stopped for the summer, and since two other cyclists in front of me are taking the same route, I choose to cycle carefully through. A little muddy, a little wet, but it’s going just fine 😄
Furthermore, I come to a beautiful beach with a barbecue area. Here I stop and chat for a bit – the view is absolutely fantastic, and the water is so clear that you want to jump in 🏖️💦
As I approach the city center, I come to a level crossing where the barrier goes down. There is an involuntary stop as the train passes. But then the train stops and reverses again – so the wait was a little extra long 😅 But look at the train! It is painted with beautiful motifs from the sea – turtles, fish and maritime colors 🚂🎨
I cycle through the city center, turn around and show you the city from the opposite direction. Nice parks, nice residential areas and a quiet atmosphere. Finally, the trip goes back to the caravan, where I end the film.
This was an incredibly nice bike ride – both the nature, the weather and the atmosphere made the day perfect 🌞🌲
