The Battle of the Somme is one of the most important engagements of the 20th century. With close to one million casualties on all sides, in the space of four months, it is hard to realize that it took place in an area only twenty miles wide.
This presentation covers a bicycle trip Allan and his wife did in 2014 that went from Amiens to Beaumont Hamel. The ride took three days, meandering for a total of about fifty miles through the famous battlefields. Traveling by bike allowed them to explore the scene at their leisure and see details that would be missed on a faster tour.
