I stumbled upon this place when a warm showers host was unavailable and recommended I check it out. I was blown away.
A hostel/community that is just a mile off of the ECG in Brunswick, Georgia. More details on getting there at the end.
For 51 years this place has run year round as a little getaway from the rest of the world.
Basic amenities and beyond! Showers, private and shared rooms available (on week days most shared rooms are unoccupied and essentially private), free laundry, kitchen with a refrigerator to store anything you might need, free eggs in the morning from their own 37 chickens on site. Some rooms have electricity, lights, and outlets while some are unpowered. They have WiFi and additional places to charge up in the main dome (building) that I always open for guests.
They also have a communal dinner every night; a lake with kayaks, canoes, and swimming; a library with books, musical instruments; board games and other activities at night and during the day.
The night I stayed they rehearsed a play that nobody had seen the script for. And one of the volunteers improvised guitar to accompany the show!
This is a community, people come to stay for a single night to months at a time. Most of the people working are volunteers/woofers. If you happen to arrive or stay on a Saturday, the founder Tom stops by to hang out and trade stories with the guests.
This is exactly the type of place you want to stay at on tour even for a few nights!
Add it to your itinerary, and tell them Aidan and Domo sent you!
