Ok so I’m pretty torn here between these two FF shells.
The weight difference is negligible being the ixs trigger is 595g- 55g lighter the the Troy Lee Stage at 650g for the small size. My head size is 55cm.
The fit on both is very close together too. The Trigger has the dial adjust disc where the Stage has the standard cushion retention.
However after dialed as tight as my head could comfortably go I felt the Trigger just a bit looser when doing a forced up and down movement test whereas the stage had only a slightly tighter fit in the lower rear and felt snugger.
The pads on the trigger seem to be better quality and softer but only came with 2 sizes whereas the Stage came with 3 including a different sized rear neck cushion and different sized crown cushion. Also with extra visor hardware.
The visor on the Trigger can be set between 3 positions whereas the Stage has the ability to adjust it 40 degrees and is something that can be done wearing the Shell.
Both have the fid-lock buckle and I absolutely love that.
Both are great and feel really good and very light but the Stage just feels a bit tighter for me “again at 55cm” and I like that.
Also when wearing my Oakley flight jackets the Trigger didn’t want to allow the glasses to sit comfortably on the nose without the side of the helmet lifting the frame over the ears lifting them off the nose completely forcing the frames to essentially bounce up and down whereas the Stage freely accepted the Oakley frames with no obstruction or rub with a nice retention knowing they will not easily just fall off on a quick descent or fall. I know most folks wear goggles with FF but I don’t think I’ll be wearing goggles up hill and casual riding and that’s the majority of my routine and just wanted a helmet that offered more protection.
So in reality it came down to the stage being slightly more snug with my 55cm head with up and down movement and the acceptance of sunglasses. Other then that I felt the Trigger to be a bit better quality. I guess kinda like Toyota is to Lexus in lack of a better metaphor.
Hopefully this helps someone ok the fence like myself. So all in all it really comes down to just trying them both on side by side and feeling them out for yourself with the eye protection you will be using. I ordered then through Amazon so I can just return the one I don’t keep.
But other then that they both are a great FF buckets and could easily ride comfortably with either one if I had to. 😉👍🚵‍♂️
