Bloody Sunday (30 January 1972) was one of the most defining and traumatic events of the Troubles, when British paratroopers opened fire on unarmed civil‑rights marchers in the Bogside, Derry, killing 14 civilians and wounding many more. It became a global symbol of injustice and a turning point that intensified the conflict, for which nobody has been held accountable, despite an apology from a British Prime Minister.
