Queensway improvement works continue 🚦 ℹ️
Work’s progressing on a series of key junction upgrades along the Queensway corridor in Weston‑super‑Mare, to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and support more sustainable travel.
Two new connected roundabouts will replace the existing traffic‑light junctions at Queensway / Walford Avenue and Bristol Road / B3440.
This new layout is designed to help the junctions run more efficiently and better manage higher traffic volumes.
Key features of the Queensway scheme include:
✅ A dedicated lane for traffic heading into Weston‑super‑Mare from J21 towards Bristol Road, allowing vehicles to bypass the southern roundabout
✅ A short dual carriageway for drivers travelling west on Bristol Road after the southern roundabout
✅ A short dual carriageway for traffic heading east on Bristol Road
✅ A new 60 metre southbound bus lane on Queensway to improve bus journey times
✅ An upgraded crossing on Walford Avenue to support walking, cycling and wheeling
✅ A new crossing point where Queensway meets National Cycle Route 33, making active travel safer and easier
