Hello! I am currently looking at buying my very first road bike as I’ve been getting more into triathlon training. I’ve done a few local sprint triathlon but I would like to one day do a half Ironman. I found a small (I’m 5’6”) 2011 Specialized ruby elite on Facebook marketplace for $750 dollars and it also comes with a CycleOps trainer. The owner states it has almost exclusively been used on the trainer with the exception of a few races over the years. I believe the owner states the last time it was ridden was 2018. The bike looks to be in really good condition (although with my limited bike knowledge it’s hard to know exactly what to check for) and rode nicely when I test drove it. The other option I’ve been considering is getting a brand new specialized allez. I’m wondering if it is worth it to buy an older carbon frame bike or if I should go with a new aluminum entry level bike. I live in Alaska so the used road bike options on marketplace are fairly limited.
