Emilie Morier is a professional cyclist based in Bayonne in the Pays Basque, training through the hills of one of the most demanding cycling landscapes in Europe. This film is part of Isolation // Identity, a long-form documentary project examining the structural isolation experienced by elite female athletes across France and Switzerland.
For Emilie, the road is where the isolation is most legible – reduced to a single moving point in a vast, indifferent landscape, with no audience and no arrival time anyone outside the sport will care about. The kilometres accumulate. The person who rides them stays largely invisible.
We celebrate the performance and discard the person who paid for it.
