I wanted to post this in the bike mechanic subreddits, but I am not a mechanic by any means—so my only option would be to take it to a shop. Basically, I bought my first fixie a few weeks ago from someone on Facebook. I didn’t think too much about the lack of front brakes because I had planned to cruise on the beaches and trails around here when it once it got warmer. But I just found out that brakes are legally mandated here (CA, USA) so I can’t even ride this around my neighborhood (not that I even feel safe riding it without proper front brakes on the roads here alongside cars). Plus, I planned to do a lot of riding with someone on the back (the rear rack is part of the frame, just need to install passenger pegs), so I feel uneasy about being able to safely backpedal for stops when I’m riding with someone cuz I’d have to shoulder her weight too.
