Greetings everyone! I'd like to reach out to other Brooks B17 owners! So I have an old B-17 saddle circa 2017 or maybe even 2020. Its pink kit has 1k km of use. I’ve kept it in storage for about six years and in that time it didn’t get the maintenance intervals it needed ( it got stuck in a storage unit bc of covid). Recently I was reunified with it. I picked it up last week, applied proofide to the top & downside, waited an hour before buffing the topside and then I let it sit in the living room for a day. Next day I checked it and the top side was a bit matte black it wasn't shiny and the underside was dry. I redid the process with as little proofide as possible. The top side is still not shiny. And the bottom side, which is my biggest concern is still dry and I can see some lines running towards the center from the back. Not to mention the rust on my main question is, how should I proceed? Should I keep applying the proofide? Is there an alternative to proofide? I'm no longer near bike shops so these kind of Saddles and seeing a Brooks leather saddle in the city is like spotting a flying pig. I appreciate all your recommendations and tips in advance. Keep riding !

Ride it. If it still looks dry in a week maybe put another coat of proofide but don’t go overboard with it. They aren’t that delicate it’ll be fine.

  2. It’s still thirsty. Ride with it for a bit and proofhide it again. Repeat as needed stretching out intervals.

I’d ride it and stop applying the proofide. Remember how it looked when you got it?? It wasn’t saturated then. And shouldn’t be now. If you put enough on that it’s stays wet looking, it’ll sag.

Ride it as is – your butt will take care of the rest, and apply the proposed as an occasional treatment.

I’ve also got b17s (2 of them) that have hung in my garage for years between rides.
