hi. im looking for a fairy lightweight (use not grams) kit for my 2009/10 surly lht canti 700c. it has 1 eye hole on the side of the fork.

I already have some cheapo rear bags (oxford) a well as top tube and handlebar bags from decathlon, and just need something to add a bit more capacity for fair-weather touring (i pack extra plastic bags to put my clothes in if it looks rainy).

I was looking at the 'giant' low rider kit but that didn't come with a cross-bar which i guess I need for stability so am looking at something like this instead

https://ebay.us/m/hyggBC

is this too cheap? I dont really want the cost of a surly one but clearly it comes with quality and strength.

front bags seem somewhat more difficult to source. I used to have some old Raleigh ones from way back, about 7litres each I think. can anyone recommend a set that wont break the bank?

thx

  1. Bike gear, at least in my experience, requires you to pick two of the three: Quality, Lightweight, Cheap. you can’t usually get all three.

I’d personally chance a (perceived) low quality cheap rack on the rear of the bike but up front, I’ll pay for high quality gear. The most expensive pannier rack in the world is still cheaper than dental bills if anything breaks or comes loose.

Not quite the same price range as the one you linked on eBay, but take a look at the [Tubus Tara](https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carriers-racks/tubus-tara-lowrider-rack-for-26-559-700c-622-wheels-black/?geoc=CA). It kinda splits the difference between the one you linked and the surly (cost wise) but Tubus is a very reputable brand that makes great pannier racks.

On my fuji touring disc, I use the Arkel AC Lowrider, which I purchased a few years ago for ~ $120 CAD and it’s been great. May not be available in all markets thought.
