As you can see there are some bolts in the way where I'd like to strap my frame bag. Tailfin told me to just ignore the bolts and strap it there anyway, which I'm afraid will cause the bolt to rub through the rubber/plastic mount after some time but I may be overthinking this.

What would you do?

  1. just ignore that the bolts are there as tailfin told me

  2. remove the bolt itself leaving only the small frame protrusion for a better fit

  3. remove the bolt and take some additional measure (what?) to prevent water from entering the frame

  4. something else that I haven't yet thought of?

thanks for any suggestions!

Do what tailfin says. Alternatively I’d wrap it with Paracord if I could fit it through the bag’s loop.

  2. Remove the bolt, cut up a tube into little pieces and put a piece in between the frame and the bag.

  3. I would do #1 personally but you can buy headless bolts or grub screws to keep water out if the hole if you decide to remove them

  4. Sturdy tape over empty bolt holes would be an option. I’d not want to leave them empty.

  5. This is such a bummer. You have an extremely rare frame with interior bolts meant to bolt on a frame bag, and you’re using a strap-on frame bag.

It looks like where the bolt falls is the rubber mount. If the bolt has a smooth and rounded head I would leave it. My Tailfin bags are extremely durable. I have the 3.8L half frame bag, .8L top tube bag and the bar cage and bag and they’ve held up great on my bike. The top tube bag got bolted in, the frame bag I used the straps through the top tube bag and around the frame.

  7. I have some rubber buttons or grommets that fit these bolt holes, and I’ve seen some bikes that come with them installed instead of bolts. If you can find some of those, I’d use those, and maybe a bit of electrical tape over top.

  8. I’ve got a Tout Terrain frame with bolts in the same locations and the same frame bag, I left the bolts in and strapped the bag over the top, no problems, the rubber mounts conform. I’ve the top tube bag bolted on to the frame.
