This is Day 1 of our 5-day cycling trip around Lake Constance — one of Europe’s most scenic bike routes.
We left Stuttgart at 5:10am, took a 2.5-hour train south into Switzerland… and made our first detour: Rhine Falls.
The largest waterfall in Europe sits just outside Schaffhausen city. There is a boat that takes you directly to the rock in the middle of the falls. You will get completely wet but go anyway.
After the falls we cycled back to Schaffhausen, caught a train east to Kreuzlingen city, crossed the Swiss border by bike, and arrived at our first campsite in Constance city on the shores of Lake Constance.
Day 1 total: 14,2 km cycled.
📍 ROUTE: Stuttgart → Schaffhausen (train) → Rhine Falls → Schaffhausen → Kreuzlingen (train) → Constance
⛺ CAMP: Campingplatz Bruderhofer, Constance, Germany

🚴 OUR BIKES:
Maria — Decathlon Elops 520 LF city bike (yes, a city bike)
Pavel — Decathlon Riverside Touring 520 crossbike
⭐ ONE BIKE IS A CITY COMMUTER:
One bike in this series is not a touring bike, not a gravel bike — it is a Decathlon Elops 520, a basic city commuter designed for riding to work. It completed all 150 km of this 5-day Lake Constance trip without a single problem. Good gears, solid frame, handles loaded bags. The route is flat and well-surfaced. You do not need special gear for this trip. If you already own a decent city bike, it is enough.
