Welcoming myself! Just received my first Brompton! Super happy with it, however I was wondering what is the use for that black plastic cover. It moves around back and forward so I am wondering if I can remove it.
I think it’s a part that protects the frame from scratching when folded. Does the latch on your front wheel grab onto it? My bike just had a sticker there.

It’s just protection/packaging material for shipping, to prevent the front wheel hook scratching that part of the rear frame. You can take it off and discard, or keep it on, but just keep an eye that it doesn’t unravel a bit more and make contact with the chain. Same for the silver part, it’s meant to be discarded.

It seems be a new version of the stay protector, which protects the stay from the front hub hook in transit from the factory. Usually they have been simple pieces of card. Maybe they have been upgraded to a tougher material for the P-line (?)
I could be wrong.
(The picture would be a bit clearer if the bike was fully unfolded to ride mode. Also, picture seems to be upside down.)
