Hello all, I’m fairly new to bike repair stuff and have been searching for an answer to a question, Ive taken on restoring a older Peugeot bicycle and have gotten a bit stuck removing the cranks, (the hub bearing feels fairly rough so I wanted to disassemble it and see what needs servicing/replacing? There’s an odd looking bolt or maybe dust cover I’m unsure of what it is exactly, I’ve been trying to find anything online about it and even asked ChatGPT, which didn’t yield and specific help, you’ll see in the picture the slotted ish looking bolt thing in the center, any information for removal would be appreciated, thanks and have a good day

  1. It’s just a (plastic?) dust cover. You can try to unscrew it with an allen key, a big flat screwdriver, or even a coin that fits inside the slot. The larger, the better. Carefully, it will break easily. But you can live without it, if it breaks.
The real bolt, that holds the crank is below that dust cover.
