Hi, I recently picked up this old steel TT frame and I’m trying to figure out exactly what it is (builder / approximate year / possible team or shop origin).
Some details:
- Steel frame, not confirmed to be Cinelli.
- Paint scheme: front end is yellow, middle is white, rear triangle is red, all in a fade.
- Decals:
- “MAVIC” on the top tube.
- “MICHELIN” printed vertically on the seatstays.
- Rear dropouts are horizontal road dropouts, brand unknown.
- Classic caliper brake mounts front and rear, with downtube shifter bosses.
- Geometry looks clearly like a time trial / triathlon frame: very low head tube, long top tube, and a very “stretched” look.
- The seatpost clamping system is also unusual: instead of a normal seat cluster with an external clamp or binder bolt, it uses two small bolts on the back of the seat tube / seatstay junction to pinch the post.
Because of the color scheme and the decals, I first thought it might be a frame built by Daniel Hanart and even contacted him, but he kindly replied that it is not his work.
Any info on:
- approximate production year
- likely framebuilder or tubing
- whether this might have been a team or local club TT bike
would be really appreciated.
I’ve attached a bunch of photos of the frame, decals, BB shell, dropouts, and the unusual seatpost clamp.
