Ex cat a racer who gained 10kg due to weightlifting (still fit) 1.72cm, 71kg. Not stocky, normal legs (neither long nor short). I started road cycling again after a decade of mainly MTBing as I found a group ride of cool people. But my old kit is falling apart at the elastics, so I went shopping.
I am absolutely annoyed by current length of the legs of bibshorts.
Every brand I tried in M is too long at the knee, hitting my joints and some are even flaring as its past the largest part of my quads. Castelli, Santini, Craft, Nalini, BBB, Shimano, Rogelli. I do not want to emulate Moser, it's not a cosmetic complaint, but hitting the back of my joints or flaring is not ok.
Whereas S just doesn't work (too much compression on legs or the straps digging into my shoulders mankini style). And even S has ridiculous long pipes.
I have older Bioracer, Campagnolo (loved their clothes), Castelli, Nalini, none of them had these issues. Especially Castelli is ridiculous (to me) how the fit changed. Sure, I don't have the race physique anymore, but I'm far from pear shaped…. and the older bibs all fit just fine, just falling apart. Same with my daily clothes, I never have issues of being an outlier.
I ordered Assos MILLE GT in M, I am curious if that's going to solve my issue. Is Equipe R S11 the same length as the GT? Some mannequin shots make me fear the worst.

I have exactly same issue with castelli size M, too long at the knee while size S was too small and huge compression and straps digging in shoulders. I’m 173 cm 70 kg.
I am stuck with size M as I couldn’t return.
I ended up pulling the thighs a bit to avoid the flaring, but its quite annoying.
