'82 3Rensho Super Record – "Wabi Sabi"
When I came across this bike it had been neglected. Stored away in a garage or basement for years. It was in pieces and covered in developing rust.
I decided that instead of trying to fully restore it, I would keep it's scars as a testament to its resilience and story.
It was once owned by Morton Gurtin; Mechanical Engineer and Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Given ties to both Konno and Gurtin, I thought it would be best to embrace the beauty in the imperfections.
I cleaned off the rust and clear coated the frame. I pulled everything apart piece by piece and cleaned it. New grease. New housing and cables. New Jockey Wheels, New tires. New saddle. New tape.
