Join me as I continue my Göttingen walking tour, where 45 NOBEL prize winners studied! Göttingen is described as a typical student town with lots of pubs and street cafes, and thousands of bicycles. In 2003, 45% of the inner city population was between 18 and 30 years of age Almost 25% of the city’s inhabitants are students. You can pedal from the outskirts to downtown in fifteen to twenty minutes.
Göttingen is quite small, which helps people find their way around quickly and not feel lost – you can easily walk or go everywhere by bike. The whole downtown is easily accessible in a few minutes by bicycle.
You can find many restaurants and pubs downtown The city offers many possibilities to meet friends in cafés and bars and do cultural activities Students get access to cultural venues like theater and symphony orchestra concerts for free or almost free through their cultural semester ticket.
Nearly untouched by Allied bombing in World War II, the inner city is now an attractive place to live with many shops, cafes and bars. The entire downtown looks like it hasn’t aged in a hundred years, with an abundance of pedestrian-only streets and bicycles.
