Have DT Swiss wheels (370 hybrid hub) on a very low KM bike (less than 300km, only a couple months old) and have developed some small lateral play in the rear wheel, its enough to feel and is best seen with the disc movement.

Everything is torqued to spec, and there is no wear on the through axle, though when the wheel is off, it feels like the axle is like a smidge too small? Like there is a much tolerance of play between the through axle and inner bearings/ bushings.

After a quick search, this looks like a somewhat common issue with these hubs? I’m wondering if I should ignore it until it gets worse, warranty it (and maybe have same issue again) or just get a new wheel for the rear and keep this one as a spare?

This isn’t normal, right? I’m sure my old wheel (Wingman and Yama hubs) never developed any play after years of abuse.

That is a ton of play.

A few possible explanations… 142mm hub in a 148mm boost frame. Axle not tightened. Rear triangle loose. Or the bearings need to be replaced.

  2. If it’s the bearings, you can get them replaced. I wouldn’t ride it personally, it would effect performance.

I am not sure about the play. As other comment mentioned, it might be wrong spacing or the bearings.
How does the bearing sound when wheel is rotated freely? No / smooth sound or noisy like grinding?

What I would be as well concerned is that spoke, which looks heavily grinded and will soon snap. If it is not a weird reflection / dirt.

does your frame come with a flip chip on the rear axle? or maybe your axle comes with a cone on the bolt head and you forgot to put it on?
