1993 Specialized Rockhopper – $325
-Suntour XC Expert drivetrain, Orange Velo bars/seat
– Excellent condition, completely went through by mechanic
2021 Trek FX 4 Carbon – $550
– stock (GRX 600 RD/cranks, Shimano hydraulic brakes, etc)
2022 Specialized Sirrus 4 Carbon – $750
– GRX RD/cranks, Tektro hydraulic brakes, dropper post)
This would be primary for commuting to work (8 miles total) and errands, exercise. I think the Trek is the best choice performance wise. The RH is the coolest. The Sirrus is attractive, but it's essentially the same bike as the Trek for $200 more.

I got a Rockhopper like that the summer before 5th grade. I proceeded to ride that thing everywhere. Mine had a more traditional flat bar and grip shifters though.
Anyway, your read is the same as mine. If it fits, I’d probably go with the Trek. The pricing on the Rockhopper is ambitious.
What would I pick? The purple rockhopper. What should I pick? Not the purple rockhopper. That’s almost an enthusiast or collector RH because the frame looks immaculate. But the other two are definitely much better bikes, newer tech is just better
Old school the Rockhopper any day of the week. Good commuter, good conversion for a gravel bike too. Some flared drop bars, gravel tires and an updated 1x groupset; your golden.
I have many HardRocks, Rockhoppers and Stumpies from the 80s/90s. Have more than several carbon bikes as well. Steel bikes are definitely for enthusiasts like myself. Heavy as heck but the frame offers so much dampening.
