I wanted to share a handlebar mount solution I built for bikepacking on my 2024 Grail.
I wasn’t satisfied with the available options—they tended to rub on the frame and bounce around. Since I’m a machinist, I decided to design and build a custom mount that bolts directly to the factory handlebars. Machined from 6061 aluminum and powder coated to match the bars.
The setup incorporates a 31.8 mm tube that supports side brackets, allowing me to securely strap my tent, sleeping mat, and pump. I also added 3D-printed tubes to hold a couple of feed bags. On the upper tube, I can mount my light and cycling computer.
The total weight of the brackets comes in at 505 grams.
I’ve tested it over a few hundred kilometers of bikepacking, and it’s performed great—no rubbing, no bouncing, and no issues.
I’m currently working on a matching aerobar mount.
