Attempting my first bikepacking trip, a one-nighter not too far from home. Leaving in just a few minutes. Been backpacking many times, but this is a first. The weight distribution looks mighty suspicious but I'm inclined to try it since I have no front racks. Wish me luck! (and sorry for non-drive side)

I think you’ll be fine as long as you are not trying to negotiate tricky terrain

Have you cycled your bike like this? When I’ve had a rear rack packed like this it meant I struck it with my quads on every pedal

And you can always wear the backpack if the ride is unstable. Though that might mean you get a sore bum.

Should be fine. I wouldnt want to cycle too far like that just for comfort probably. And I hope the pack is pretty secure on there.

Panniers bags can be had for like €30, just get a cheap set next time. Or a dry bag on the rack and a bigger frame bag, if you can pare down what youre bringing

You’ll be fine. Have an adventure! Tell us all about it when you get back 😉

  6. I have the same bag and have done a similar setup! I like to attach the brain to the front of my bars and make it a makeshift bar bag. The zipper facing up makes it super convenient to store and grab things.

  7. Less than 30 miles total?  I think you got it. More than that, I would see what you can do about distributing that load.

I’ve seen too many bags mounted this way either fall into the spokes or lose a strap to the drivetrain to be comfortable riding this setup. Take it slow your first few miles, check your bag often, and bring extra straps.

  9. I demand you update us on your experience, tomorrow!
I always find other’s adventures motivating

  10. I would change the huge rear bag fro a shorter one and get two bags on the sides: that rear bag is too close to your legs, you’re gonna hate touching it at every pedal stroke very soon.
