Hey everyone, I hope everything is going well. I have been riding a bike since I was 15, and i'm now 22, I have always been thinking of traveling the world, but it looks expensive.

2 years ago, I found out that you can do it with your bike the last couple of months. I was like, I should do it. So I have decided to start in 01/03/2027.

But the problem is I've been struggling for the past 4 years, during the last 4 years, I've worked for just six months, and the whole time I was just at home and sometimes I go out with my friend's bike I borrowed from him. So I have right now 600$ and I don't have a bike or any gear for bicycletouring.

That's why I'm reaching out here, hoping some of you might believe in this dream. I would love someone to guide me through some ways to make money online or something like that. Your advice, your ideas, means more than you can imagine.

English is not my first language, in case you want to share something with me. All of the above was typed without translation.

i will read all the comments.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.🚲

Honestly? While you’re still this young just save up for a 1-3 month jaunt and just get going on it. If you’re thinking of monetising the adventure on the side, I’m afraid you’ll never start. That’s an incredibly difficult thing to do without a career in place already.

$600 is not terrible for a decent second hand bike from about 5 years ago — age really doesn’t matter with modern bikes. Just make sure there isn’t any critical damage and get it serviced properly when you have it for like $100 (at the very max, mostly like $40).

To get the most optimal choice for panniers and kit, try looking at bikes with as many mounting points as possible. Otherwise you’ll be looking at more expensive systems like Tailfin.

  2. Bike touring is awesome you should do it! Sounds like you need a real job. Not an internet job. Any job will do. Work at a bar, a store, a coffee shop. Sounds like you’re living at home which is awesome for saving money. You could easily save 20k in the next 9 months if you’re disciplined and committed. Don’t need fancy gear just need to get out there. Borrow a bicycle or get a cheap second hand one and start getting your gear ready

Where are you located? Some parts of the world are much easier to tour on the cheap than others, and finding a good bike and cheap pannier setup really varies based on location as well.

Here in the US, you can find an older steel touring bike for a few hundred, build panniers out of plastic buckets and stuff from the hardware store, get a cheap camping setup online from AliExpress, and be on the road for under $600.

Obviously you wouldn’t want to start a trip with no money for lodging or food, and that information may be of no use where you are located, but maybe that information helps your planning.

  4. Monetizing on social media is tough. So many people are doing the #bikelife thing, you need to find a niche if that’s the route you want to take. I have a sponsor that covers a lot of the costs on my tours (I have a post about how to get sponsors if you look in my profile) but even then, they’ll want you to do a tour first and show that you can hack it and be a good business partner.

So honestly, just go do a tour. If you find a job where you can work remotely, pack a laptop and solar charger, and life’s a breeze. But don’t plan on bike touring leading to a living wage.
