Hey I have this vintage motobecane, friction shifter, 2×5 speed bike that I’m using for commuting. The current steel wheelset is in need of replacement.
I have a new shimano wh-rs100 casette wheelset laying around that I’d like to put on this bike.
I’m aware that I have to bend the rear spacing a little bit to fit the 130mm new wheelset requirement
The new wheelset also allows me to run more gears on the rear so I’d love to use this opportunity to upgrade the drivetrain too.
I read that if I want to run 7 speed I can keep using the drivetrain and if I go higher I’d have to replace the rear derailleur, chain, and even crankset?
Can anyone give me advice what I have to do to make the bike compatible with the new wheelset and is it worth it to upgrade to 7 or 10 speed? If so how should I do it?
