I am mostly interested whether the Speeds roll noticeably faster. On paper they should be quicker, but what seems to be their predecessor (which might have used different compound, hard to tell) actually measured a bit slower then the Urbans on bicycle rolling resistance https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/tour-reviews/compare/continental-contact-urban-vs-continental-sport-contact-2016

I run urban contact. Amazing. I’d never go back to marathon plus. And they grip like something else! I corner on my commuter like I’m in a crit now (only in streets I know its safe to!).Â
Had the Speed on my old MTB that I used in the city. It did a good job and I had no punctures (rode them around 2000km before buying a new bike)
I can only vouch for the contact urban. Best commuter tire I’ve ever used. Really fast and feels quite good too.
Are they any good in gravel/dirt I ride 75% pavement and 25% gravel and dirt
I run the Urban Contact on my Bridgestone converted E Bike. Absolutely phenomenal tire. Tough, fast, sticky and comfortable.
Wearing really well too!
The contact speed doesn’t actually feel any faster than the contact urban, in fact on good pavement the contact urban feels smoother and runs quieter.
Even if it was marginally slower, all of it’s other qualities outweigh the contact speed by a long shot. MUCH better water displacement, certainly one of the best I’ve seen for what’s basically still a slick. Great cornering and grip. It’s dirt cheap (at least on online stores here in Germany) and I’ve only punctured twice in my 4 years of running it here in Berlin.
It’s hands down the best commuter tire.
There are however real downsides:
– It’s a little heavy compared to a folding tire
– it can be a real f-ing pain to mount on certain rims
-the wider versions tend to be sold out once in a while
It’s a great tire, run the widest your frame allows and call it a day!
I tried the Contact Speed, had no issues! It rolls well and is very quiet, and improves ride comfort!
