So I'm looking for a backpacking route for this summer and had this idea. Starting in Chur (Switzerland) and then crossing the Alps and the Dolomites to link with half of the Slovenia West Loop and ending in Triëste. Should be doable in around 10 days. Thoughts/tips/unmissable extras/variations?

Hello,
I did this rout basically in reverse. Went through Ljubljana-Villach-lienz-Bolzano-Merano-Stelvio-Sondrio and than by the Italian lakes to Lugano in 10 days. Lovvved it al the way from Ljubljana to Lake Como as it is almost 80% bike paths so I really reccomend this rout. I would avoid Trieste on your route, it is a nice city but the traffic is horrible. When in Slovenia I reccommend that you explore the Triglav national park, it is beautiful.
I cycled most of your planned route in several trips and can only highlight what u/Aware_Positive_9304 said.
Dolomites are really nice + the Triglav nationalpark too, Slovenia south of Ljubljana to Triest is ok but not spectacular. So I would spend some extra time in the Dolomites and Triglav and end the trip in Ljubljana.
Also looks like you want to do the Sellaronda. It’s amazing but traffic can be horrific. So try to avoid being there on the weekend or when the Italians have some kind of holidays.
Do you want to sleep outside?
