  1. I am once again here from the united states, lamenting our lack of distinct bicycle pathways, and dreaming of how much better it could be. I spent fifteen minutes making commentary to myself about the variout outfits and types of people cycling past. thank you for this! 🙂

  2. I could watch this all day long! I know that they are just going about their business getting from point A to point B. But this just absolutely fascinates me.
Do the the Dutch have a lower rate of heart disease, etc compared to other countries because of their physical activity riding bikes all the time?

  3. spotted 8 drop bar bikes in this video, around 2 to 3 of them have helmet on, i suppose if you are riding short distance at slow speed, and only ride on bikeways with orderly traffic, helmet may not be necessary. My home city bikeways are chaotic on weekends, shoddy components especially brakes on hire bikes frequently seen, frequent walking on bike highways, erratic behaviour like swiveling too close to others, sudden stop in high speed tunnels, riding holding phone, you name it, which make weekend cycling there not so fun with frequent emergency braking even with long distances to the front rider due to erratic swiveling into opposite way, making strong brakes and helmet pretty much necessary even on bikeways and not just in roads with traffic.(probably biased due to me riding a road bike with disc brakes, and frequently pushing past 30km/h and even into 40 and 50km/h on occasion depending on conditions)

  4. This is not at all representative for dutch society. A mere 5 people held their phones during their cycling. Most notably (2:08), (3:22). Normally this is much higher. You can however see many using earbuds or headphones. And lots of food deliveries from Ubereats and Thuisbezorgd. You won't be seeing many of those in early morning traffic.

  5. Some people still aren't aware (or just risk it) that holding a phone in your hand while biking isn't allowed and the fine is €179
    (age 12 to 16 € 85, below 12 a warning).

  6. I really wish the UK had this kind of infrastructure that would allow bikers to travel this freely, I'd be out on my bike every day.
It's not as bad as it was pre-pandemic but this, looks super safe and bikers don't have to breathe poisonous petrol fumes from cars.

  7. I'm from the US, I've lived all over America, I used to work a few times a year in Amsterdam as an instructor at KLM teaching KLM flight operations personnel in getting their US FAA dispatch license. One of more of the KLM employees, learning that I am a long time cyclist, would loan me one of their bicycles so on my off time I could cycle all over. In 2004 I gave up my driver's license and only cycle or walk as my mode of transportation all year round. I live in Wisconsin so the winters can be a little challenging when we get large amounts of snow because the plows tend to leave the snow in the bike lanes, and block the intersections to cross over streets on bike paths, but that just makes the ride a little more of an adventure. After a snow storm I love getting out, I strap a short handle snow shovel on my bike to clear a path through the snow banks the plows leave behind. I know that I am not the only winter cyclist in my area since I see lots of bike tire tracks in the snow on bike paths. These vids are fun to watch and bring back a lot of fond memories of all my cycling adventures in the Netherlands when I worked in the aviation industry (retired now due to the age 60 rule under the FAA for Airline Transport pilots).
