A year an a half ago I’ve had a lot of trouble getting a replacement Main Pivot Chip for my Rocky Mountain Element C50, but when I finally got it, it solved the recurring creaking and play in the pivot – FINALLY.

The main difference I noticed after a while is that the new chip had a little bolt in it to fix the chip in the frame, the original chip didn’t have it.

Now my bike start creaking again, and I noticed the little bolt is gone. Probably vibrated out after a lot of riding in the last 18 months.

I’m sort of wondering what kind of bolt I need to look for, or if there is some other or special part required, as the recessed bolt looks… wel not standard. I’ve attached a photo.

If someone could share a photo of their pivot chip, or some insights I know where to start looking.

  1. More often than not you will find something like this is what’s called a proprietary part meaning it’s unique to this manufacturer or sometimes even this model. When this is the case the only way to get one is to go to RM because it is not something that will sell in big enough numbers for it to be profitable for a third party company to make.

Things like this do fall firmly in the check as part of routine maintenance & adjustment category.
